Most people enjoy their teachers and have a respect for learning, but not Russel Culver. The Teacher's Funeral, by Richard Peck, is an interesting story about children learning to choose their attitude and work together. Russel Culver's teacher is now dead, and Russel is thrilled to maybe not have school anymore. But, they end up getting a new teacher, Russel's worst nightmare. In the end, she is not as bad after all. Max Thieriot would play the perfect role of Russel.

Amy and Dan are doing everything they can to save their family members from being hostages. But can they manage to make it alive? A King's Ransom, by Jude Watson, is a book full of adventure and mystery. Amy and Dan are racing against time to find a map that went missing more than a half a century ago. If they do not return the map to Vesper one in four days, one of the hostages will die. Will they succeed? Jayden Smith would be the perfect person to play Atticus Rosenbloom in the movie.

Dan and Amy Cahill have been waiting for this day to come. The day when everything would change and they would have to watch their backs. The Medusa's Plot, by Gordon Korman, is a story about two Cahill kids "dying" to save seven family members being held hostage. Every time Dan and Amy don't fulfill this task, one of the hostages will get "killed". They need to save their family from the Vespers, or who knows what will happen to them with the world in their hands. I really hope "they" make this book into a movie!

Computer Lab

"Today, you are going to do a reality check and see what jobs are best for you," said Mr. Jost. In computer lab, everybody had to take a reality check. During the reality check, everyone would choose where they wanted tolive. Also, everybody checked off all the things they would want to have with them. At the end, you would see the monthly expenses and the annual salary needed for where you live and the things you need. This reality check is a great lesson which teaches you how to live and what to watch out for.

"Now put four polluters and ten bears in the bowl." In science lab today, we played a game to teach you how pollution can kill animals and life. Everyone would take two bears out at a time in a bowl. If they got two yellow, then they lived. If they got a yellow and a green, then that yellow bear died. Finally, if you got two green, then you had to add another polluter to those ones. This lab taught us to not pollute, because if you do, you can kill animals and life in future generations.

Petroleum products or plastic are everywhere in the world. In science lab, we learned that plastic can be anywhere you look and may be dangerous. Plastic is in toothpaste, in shoes, and anywhere else you won't expect it. Plastics or petroleum products can also help people too. But most are harmful because the chemicals in the plastic can come off and cause cancer or autism. In fact, one in thirty-five children are diagnosed with autism. People need to use less plastic because it is hurting people everywhere in the world.

Tech Lab

Computer Lab

"You are... TRAPPED!" In computer lab everyone went on to Bitesize Math to do games on either science, reading, or writing. One game on writing was Trapped and you had to pick the right punctuation in order to move up levels. Reviewing punctuations are a very important skill to learn. For example, usually when writing essays, people get graded on punctuation. It also applies to real life. When a person wants to write a book, if there aren't the right punctuations, people could get confused. Bitesize math is a great way to learn/review skills that can help you later in life too.

"Click on all the circles to eliminate everything but one." In tech lab, everyone was to do geometry "games". These games help people to study for tests because there are most likely going to be geometry on tests. Geometry is in everyday life, too. Everywhere you look there is geometrical figures, like on a stop sign. A stop sign is in the shape of an octagon. Geometry games in tech lab today was a very beneficial use of our time.

"Find the mean, median, mode, and range for these objects." In computer lab, everybody reviewed
handling data like diagrams, measures of central tendency, and probability. We did the activity then had a
quiz to make sure we got them all right. Doing this review got everyone ready for CST testing in a few
weeks. Bitesize math, the website we went on today, was very useful and a great way to make sure people
are ready for testing.

Plug-in cars are new to this earth, but they are off to a very successful and are enviormental start. In science lab this morning, we watched a video about renewable and geothermal resources. Our air has been really bad, so people  have started to think of better ways to not give out so much polution. One of the ways, produces electricity through wind, called a wind turbine. For geothermal energy, people have come up with ways to have cars run on vegetable oil and electricity(plug-ins). It is so fascinating to see how someone can come up with great ideas that can change our world. With renewable resources and geothermal energy, people can.

“Multiply the quantities,” Bitesize Math ks3 tells us. Today in computer lab, we got to have review on all the math we have done so far in class. We could do really fun activities that made education super exciting. Mr. Jost showed us this really cool video about a new computer that came out a month ago. The whole computer is a little bigger than a credit card. I was awestruck to see how tiny computers could be made. In computer lab we learned and experienced extremely fun games, review, and activities that make people want to do more.

Mad for Miley

Devon Samuelian#28                   Mad for Miley                   Blogging 128pgs.
“I wouldn’t want to be someone you can’t say hello to. I want to be very approachable,” Miley tells Girls’ Life Magazine. Mad for Miley, by Lauren Alexander, is a biography telling the whole story of Miley Cyrus’ childhood. Miley has all her fans looking up to her, and has a great career as an actress/singer, she loves what she does. But on the other hand, Miley is just a normal teenager from Tennessee trying to live a normal life. She has had a wonderful childhood and wants to make all of her friends, family, and even her fans proud. It is very interesting to see the background of a star’s life like a behind-the-scenes tour.

Do dogs really eat homework? This was one of the questions that was on Wonderopolis. Mr. Jost showed us many different sites that we could teach ourselves, but Wonderopolis was definitely a hit. This site is a great way to find out different answers to some people’s curiosity. Computer lab was really entertaining and fun because we got to learn a bunch of different new things.

enrichment reading

Devon Samuelian #28                                       Ella Enchanted 260pgs.                   Blogging (Newberry)

"My gift is obedience. Ella will always be obedient." said the fairy. Ella Enchanted, by Gail Carson Levine, is about a girl named Ella who was given the "gift" of obedience. She must do whatever she is told whether it is good or bad. But Ella is determined to break the spell and eventually live happily ever after. She will do whatever it takes to break the "gift" given to her. I'm glad Anne Hathaway plays Ella in the movie, she's perfect for it.
